Today Steve did everything we talk about for a ride leader. As we were leaving the parking lot in Lyons (the Amish Country Tour) he saw a couple of cars pull in late. He circled back. One was an old time member. The other was a first timer. Steve helped this new rider with tire inflation and seat height then the three of them left for the ride. They communicated with our group (Ann was with us) and after a train crossing delay decided to short cut the route before the model train club's stop. Our now larger bunch rode the last few miles to the train club gathering, filled up on food, watched the kids riding the model trains and helped the new rider with answers and advice.
Without Steve's willingness to help out and shepherd the new rider along he would have had the experience that our survey pointed out was a too common one for first timers. We all left the lot and the new rider in the dust, we didn't ride with them. So I say a big thanks to Steve Lee for showing how real acceptance is done. And, by the way, Steve didn't lead the ride. Andy.
